First of all, let’s recap what Edpuzzle actually is.
Edpuzzle is a complementary education tool that allows students to watch video lessons in class or at home and complete assignments. The use of this web-based software and application is intended to further engage students and also to better identify each of their learning processes.
Edpuzzle is an online learning tool targeted at educational institutions or other organizations performing any kind of teaching or training. Students, on the other hand, use the service under the direction of their teacher and may only access the service if their teacher has provided them with a specific class code.
This means that educational institutions are in control of their students’ personal information and are therefore obliged to take all necessary measures to protect such information. Additionally, schools will also be responsible for informing students and their parents accordingly about what data is collected, which are the purposes of collection, how data is used and to which third parties it is disclosed.
Just like any other web- or cloud-based educational tool, Edpuzzle requires that schools and/or teachers obtain parental consent to set up Edpuzzle accounts on students’ behalf and allow underage students to access and use those accounts. For schools in the United States or the European Union/EEA, respectively, Edpuzzle provides a template to help schools obtain parental consent, where applicable (attached to this article).
SCHOOLS IN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES AND COMMUNITIES HAVE DIFFERENT REGULATIONS AND APPROACHES, AND EDPUZZLE CANNOT ADVISE YOU ON COMPLIANCE WITH THE LAWS APPLICABLE TO YOUR SCHOOL. YOU SHOULD OBTAIN ANY PARENTAL CONSENT THAT MAY BE REQUIRED BY YOUR SCHOOL IN A MANNER THAT COMPLIES WITH THE LAWS OF YOUR JURISDICTION.
