Does Edpuzzle charge tax for Pro Teacher subscriptions?

Starting on November 1, 2026, sales tax may be added to your Edpuzzle subscription where required by state and local law in the US. Here's what's changing, why, and what it means for your invoice.

Why does Edpuzzle charge sales tax?

Like many digital services and software companies, Edpuzzle is required by law in the US to collect sales tax in states and/or localities that impose it on digital products and subscriptions. This is a legal requirement, not a price increase — the cost of your plan has not changed.

When does this take effect?

Sales tax only applies to charges processed on or after November 1, 2026, including renewals.

Note: This isn't happening everywhere. Sales tax only applies in states and/or localities in the US where it's legally required for digital subscription services. If your state or locality doesn't require it, you won't see any tax added to your invoice.

How is the sales tax amount calculated?

Your sales tax is calculated based on the billing address listed for your Pro plan. Rates vary by state and, in some cases, by locality.

Sales tax appears as a separate line item on your invoice or receipt — it's never bundled into your subscription price.

Which plans are affected?

Sales tax can apply to both Pro Teacher and Pro School plans where required by your state and/or locality in the US, but the two work differently.

Individual Pro Teacher subscriptions:

If you're in a state or locality that requires sales tax on digital subscriptions, tax will appear as a separate line item on your invoice beginning November 1, 2026. The amount is based on your billing address and your state's applicable rate.

Note: Tax exemption certificates cannot be applied to a Pro Teacher subscription, even if your school has one on file. U.S. sales tax law treats the individual subscriber as the end consumer, so exemption certificates — which apply only to qualifying organizations purchasing directly — don't apply to personal purchases. This is the case in every state, with no exceptions.

If your school or district wants to take advantage of an organizational tax exemption, reach out to us at support@edpuzzle.com to learn about a Pro School plan instead.

Pro School Plans:

Pro School plans continue to work as they do today. In states and/or localities in the US that tax B2B transactions, qualifying educational organizations can provide a valid, state-issued tax exemption certificate to have that tax waived. Edpuzzle keeps exemption certificates on file for qualifying accounts and applies them automatically at billing.

If you have questions about your institution's exemption status, contact your account administrator or reach out to support@edpuzzle.com.

Will my subscription price change?

This change does not affect the current price of your subscription. Sales tax, where applicable, is added on top of your existing subscription price — it doesn't replace or increase it.

My billing address is wrong. How do I update it?

Since your sales tax is calculated from the billing address on file, keeping it current matters. Go to the Plan tab of your profile, and under the Payments section, select “Manage Payments”. Here you can update your address before your next billing cycle.

Note: If you move to a different state or locality, your applicable sales tax will be recalculated based on your new address starting at your next billing cycle.

Can I get a refund on the sales tax I've already been charged?

Sales tax collected is remitted directly to the applicable state and local tax authorities, so it's generally non-refundable. If you believe tax was applied to your account in error, contact us at support@edpuzzle.com.

I don't think my state requires sales tax on digital subscriptions. What should I do?

We do our best to stay current with sales tax laws across every state and locality in the US, but if you think a tax has been applied incorrectly, email support@edpuzzle.com with your state and billing details, and we'll review your account.
